Radar pole and base – 222 viewsI've chosen a 2" / 5cm mast since that fits a simple and relatively cheap coupling.
You can see the coupling (normally used for milk (!) on farms) about 20 cm above the railing.
Nobeltec Radar antenna – 241 viewsHere you can see the radar antenna and the finished pole.
The final height is about 4 m above sea level; giving a good compromise between range and ability to see buoys at close distance.
The pole was made by a local welder.
Cable assembly – 211 viewsOn the right you see the cable coming from the scanner. On the left you see the extension cable that Alphatron supplied -- normally used for big commercial radars I guess.
At this point in the assembly the three coaxial sub-cables have been soldered and crimped, and all that remains is the 9 non coaxial wires.
Final cable assembly – 168 viewsThe final result. Every wire twisted, soldered, crimped, and with the outer heat crimp in place as well.
Note the size of the professional cable -- it really JUST fit a 7/8" cabling pipe so I had to reroute all cabling already made by the wharf through a different pipe.
Passport Chart Dongle – 191 viewsUSB dongle for using my charts.
This photo also used as proof for insurance that
I had it in case of loss!
Chart table assembly – 239 viewsWhat you see here is:
- PC (VIA, 1Ghz) with experimental larger heatsink (since removed)
- Shipmodul USB NMEA multiplexer
- Another black box with a voltage regulator (since removed)
- Koden Radar interface box at lower end (blue box) and USB-RS422 interface box (at very bottom of picture)
At this point the cabling was still unfinished!

ShipModul NMEA multiplexer – 205 viewsAgain, cabling still unfinished.

Chart table – 262 viewsAll that you see of the entire PC and radar is the screen, mini keyboard and mouse, and the external DVD reader.
The screen can be rotated round so that you can view DVDs from the cabin.
Nobeltec Admiral – 237 viewsA more close up shot of Nobeltec Admiral running.
In fact the area shown is the IJsselmeer.
The black patch isn't a bug, it's a fishing area which the software interprets as a no go area.
This has been fixed in Admiral 10 (Max Pro).
